Dear Prelude II Family & Singers,
I hope that you are all well and staying healthy! This week, Prelude II class worked on fluency with pentatonic solfege syllables (that’s the notes do, re, mi, sol, and la of the major scale). Many of our folk songs and singing games use only the pentatonic scale, so we are working with known songs as we add in this next element of music literacy and aural skills.
We learned and played the singing game “Tideo” and warmed up our voices. We then started working on a new song “Jenny Wren,” and reviewed “The Weather” and “Country Gardens.” I’ve asked for singers to focus on memorizing “Country Gardens” so that we can perform without music at the end of our semester. You can use the links above to help with memorization.
We ended our time together with the partner dance, “Grand Old Duke of York.”
Please help your singer to reminder her/his folder each week. We are handing out new pieces of music and singers need to have them in class each week as we rehearse.
