We wanted to take a moment and reach out regarding our new approach to making music together over these next few weeks. While we are certainly not thrilled about not being in person with you each week, it’s important that we all do our part to keep ourselves, and each other, safe and healthy during this time. Even though we can’t meet together to sing and practice our music, we can still spend this time wisely and work together to achieve our goals and make music.
Over the next few weeks, here’s what you can expect from us:
We will be posting part recordings for some of our pieces and recordings of full performances. Please, use these to practice. I’ll be assigning certain sections to work on and learn each week.
We will share resources for mindfulness or breathing exercises: we encourage you to use them whenever you need a break for relaxation and focusing. These are great to do as a whole family!
We will also be posting vocal warm-up exercises online and assigning certain ones each week for you to practice. In addition, we’re hoping to post some vocal technique videos for you to watch and partake in as well.
For musicianship, we will be posting work via pdf packets and listening examples. For ALLEGRO singers: we’ll be continuing to work on C-Major solfege, and sight-singing.
And finally, each week we’ll be sending you a fun resource to explore – maybe a virtual visit to a museum, or a new piece of music to listen to, or an assignment to complete outside, or an opportunity to make music with those around you – we are challenging ourselves to be creative and think outside the box with these, and we hope they’ll be a fun adventure for you as well! 🙂
Here are a few tips on how to make the most of our time ‘distanced’ from each other.
Keep practicing! Please don’t think that you’ll be able to not practice for several weeks and jump right back in. Music takes consistent effort and love, and we want all of our singers to be ready to go when we get to meet again.
There are a few tools that will help you during this time: make sure you have a way to video record yourself (a cell phone is fine) and send me the files. We’re still figuring out what the best way to receive them will be on our end.
Make sure you have a way to play video and audio files so you can use them to practice with. The family computer in the living room may not be your best option. 😉
Please be patient with us – this is brand new territory for Cantabile and we’re working diligently to provide a seamless experience for our singers but we may hit a technical bug here and there as we go.
If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are confident that this time apart can still be fun, productive, and full of music-making, and we welcome your partnership in making it so.
We hope you are all staying healthy and safe!
