Cantabile Youth Singers, under the artistic direction
of Elena Sharkova, announce auditions for spring enrollment
in all levels of choirs, January 4, 5 and 7, 2006 by appointment
in Los Altos.
Prospective students are asked to sing an unaccompanied song
of his or her choosing. The Artistic Director will evaluate
the singer’s pitch-matching ability, melodic memory,
rhythmic ability and sight reading skills in order to place
the student in the appropriate choir level.
Prior music experience is not required for Preparatory Choir
or Intermediate Choir. Older incoming singers will be placed
in the appropriate choir dependent upon skill and maturity.
This is Prof. Sharkova’s second season as Artistic Director,
having taken over from founding director Signe Boyer, who retired
in 2004. “I am delighted to be working with the accomplished,
dedicated, and talented Cantabile singers. It is a great opportunity
to enhance young singers’ lives and share their talents
with appreciative audiences.”
Prof. Sharkova is currently assistant professor of music and
Director of Choral Activities at San Jose State University
and began her career working with children in St. Petersburg,
Russia, and Cantabile has taken her back to her musical roots. “Children
are a special cosmos of joy, creativity, talent, and emotion,
and I find great rewards in helping them find their voices
within.”
