Singers, grades 1-6
Prior music experience is not required for singers in junior training choirs and the audition will consist of an evaluation of each singer’s skill and maturity through vocalization, pitch matching and responsive singing. Singers will be recommended for the appropriate level choir upon completion of the audition evaluation.

Singers, grades 7-12
Prospective singers for Cantabile’s performing choir senior choirs are asked to sing an unaccompanied or accompanied song of their choosing. The Artistic Director will evaluate the singer’s overall musicianship, pitch-matching ability, melodic memory, rhythmic ability and sight reading skills in order to place the student in the appropriate choir level. Enrollment in the senior performing choirs requires serious dedication of time and talent.

Artistic Director, Elena Sharkova is currently assistant professor of music and Director of Choral Activities at San Jose State University and Artistic Director of the Chorale Symphony Silicon Valley and began her career working with children in St. Petersburg, Russia. “Children are a special cosmos of joy, creativity, talent, and emotion, and I find great rewards in helping them find their voices within.”

Cantabile Youth Singers, a member of the Cantabile Choral Guild and Foothill College Performing Arts Alliance, operates graduated choir levels which serve children ages 6-18 from the Peninsula through South Bay. In addition to presenting annual Winter and Spring concerts, Cantabile singers perform throughout the community, are guest ensembles with Bay Area choral and orchestral organizations and tour nationally and internationally. Cantabile Youth Singers made their Carnegie Hall debut in summer 2005 as participants in a national youth choir festival lead by Elena Sharkova.
