Week of September 28, 2015/Class #3

Greetings Prep 2 Families,
Many thanks from Jazmine and myself for another great week of rehearsing in Prep 2 Chorus. We are having so much fun getting to know your children, and they are all making some great progress, both musically, and vocally.
Trivia Question: We have had a great time singing the song “Welcome Here,”  which is based upon a Shaker Hymn from what region of the United States?
This week, continue to watch and listen to:
Please work on the following:
  • Memorize all the lyrics of Path to the Moon, practice singing it as you sway with the waves!
  • Review our circle movements for Haida, including the big CLAP on the rest! We will continue to pick more singers to play the tambourine next week
  • Practice all three sections of Shake the Papaya Down! Which is your favorite?
Rehearsal Overview:
We continued to explore high and low singing with our colorful scarves! Everyone came up with their own beautiful and unique sound to engage their “attic” and “basement” voices. We were so impressed with everyone’s ability to listen and echo these special sounds. Encourage your child to continue exploring the different vocal registers with the help of a scarf or simple arm motions to show High and Low, and also have your child sing our Bumble Bee Warm-up, showing the conducting motions of the bee flying up and down.
This week we spent a lot of time playing different Animal Rhythms!! Practice these and have your child say and play rhythms of other animals too, along with the actual rhythmic syllables: TAH, TITI, TIRI-TIRI, TRI-O-LAH
Trivia Answer: Appalachia
Have a great weekend, and we look forward to seeing you next week!
Katie and Jazmine
