Prep 3 – Monday, Jazmine
We had another great week in Prep 3! We started this week by learning a new welcome song, “Fenga Alafa”. In addition to learning the melody, the words, and the dance movements, we also learned the fun body percussion parts as well. We had fun echoing them back on instruments, and will continue to have new leaders each week!
After some fun warm ups, we sang through “We Can Plant A Forrest” once, and it’s coming along very nicely. As you’re able, please focus on the bridge and the ending of the piece, as those still need the most attention.
Then, we worked on learning the counter melodies and harmony lines for “Fly Away Horse”. This will be one of our solo pieces that we perform at our recital in May, so it’s very important that all of the singers know this one very well! Next, we learned a new song for our All Choir Concert, “We Are A Circle”. Please review the lyrics this week! The melody isn’t hard and this should be very easy to memorize fairly quickly.
Lastly, we reviewed “There Has To Be A Song” including using our hands to demonstrate the difference in articulations between slurs (violins and cellos) vs. staccatos (drums and piano). Please pay attention to this as you practice this week!
As we only have a few rehearsals left before the concert, I’d like to remind everyone that we still have quite a bit of work to do over the next few weeks. I so appreciate the time and energy the singers have been investing at home, and I can’t wait to share their hard work and talents with everyone at the concert. Prep 3 – Tuesday, Amy
Prep 3 did some really lovely singing this week, especially on our canon, “This Pretty Planet.” We were even able to sing in a three-part canon!
This week, we learned the song “Great Big House,” as well as a folk dance. We spent some time talking about how folk songs, based down through oral tradition, sometimes have different variations. After singing and dancing, we wrote out the rhythm of the song and next week, we will notate the song on the staff.
We continued to work on our choral pieces, “I Am,” “The Fly Away Horse,” and “We Can Plant a Forest.” We are working towards memorization on “I Am” and each student received a lyric sheet to help with that process. Please also use the following videos to help with memorization:

We quickly reviewed the musicianship schedule – singers should be returning their books this next week with pages 7-12 completed.
We ended our class by learning the clapping game, “Double, Double, Ice, Ice” which we will play next week!
