Prep 2 Tuesday – Amy
It was so wonderful to have two weeks of rehearsal in a row! This week we continued our rhythm review and played a fun “class vs. teacher” style game called Poison Rhythm. I’m proud to say that the singers beat me!
We started working on a Zulu piece called “Thula Klizeo“. This piece has a really fun body percussion section that we enjoyed learning and practicing. The singers did a great job learning the Zulu text and following along in their music.
We continued to work on “I Am” and “Fairest Lady“. Both pieces are coming along quite well and I am looking forward to continuing to get these pieces performance ready!
Finally, we ended our time together with a folk song and dance, “Rocky Mountain“. We’ll learn another variation of the dance next week.
Prep 2 Thursday – Emily
It was so wonderful to see you all on Thursday! Thank you for such an enjoyable class!
We started off our time together with many rounds of “Down In the Valley”, including some wonderfully fun motions generated by the singers! After our bodies were nice and limber from all that movement, we dove into our favorite warm-ups, “My Dog Has Fleas” and “Mommy Made Me Mash My M&M’s”.
We learned a new song, “Paw Paw Patch” and did our best with the rather complicated dance that accompanies it. We discovered that there was a new rhythm called “tiri-tiri” that has four sounds to the beat in it. The singers were able to transcribe the rhythm for the entire song, including identifying where the “tiri-tiri”s were. I was very proud! I know Ms. Emily will continue to work on it in weeks to come, so make sure you practice it at home.
Then we played a few rounds of “How Many Miles To Babylon” before we did some excellent pitch transcription work on “Mouse Mousie”. If you didn’t finish the paper in class, try and finish it over the next week.
Finally we ended our class session by reviewing the English words of “I Hear The Mill Wind”, and I was even able to teach the French words as well!
Thank you everyone for a fabulous class, and Emily looks forward to seeing you next Thursday!
