Prep 2 – Thursday, Emily
It was lovely to be back with your children this week. They are making big progress in their musical knowledge.
We started class with the song Dinah. We went around the circle, with each child choosing and ostinato to do underneath the song while we sang it with their name.
They showed me their ability to stand like good choristers as we warmed up their voices. We did some vocal exploration with sirens, and then used our voices to show different emotions with the silly warm-up Mama made me mash my m and m’s.
We resisted the song and dance Great Big House in New Orleans, and we were successful at learning the dance this time! Go Prep 2! Then we worked on writing it on the staff together. This is a VERY challenging exercise for many of them. I want to reassure you that if your child is not getting this, do not worry, and please tell them not to worry. We will work on this many times, and they will get it eventually. Our class has children at different levels, and I do my best to meet as many needs as possible. Sometimes that means we do something that is a little bit more advanced than the beginners—and vice versa! If your child is feeling overwhelmed or frustrated, please let me know so I can help them.
We played the game Circle Round the Zero so we could have some fun after all that work!
We sang some French songs, of course! We started with Alouette, a song about a lark being groomed, which involves learning the names of body parts. Expanding on body parts in French, we sang Jean Petit qui Danse.
They sang Chocolat Chaud with great enthusiasm!
We finished our class with the game How Many Miles to Babylon.
Thank you and I’ll see you next week!
