Prep 1 Rehearsal Blog for October 25, 2018

Dear Prep 1 Familes,

We had another fun day in Prep 1!  Your children continue to surprise me with their sharpness and speed in learning!  Next week’s class is the day after Halloween, and your children are invited to wear costumes if they wish.

We started class with Down in the Valley, where each pairs of children make movements in the middle of the circle and we all imitate them.

We played We are Dancing in the Forest, and then derived the rhythm of our song, which includes sol, mi and la.  We used hand signs to show the notes, and we put them on the tone ladder.

The children read Snail, Snail from the staff, and then we played the game.

We created rhythmic ostinati and learned the song Come Butter, Come.  This song prepares them to learn about rests.

We practiced switching between beat and rhythm with the song/game Burnee Bee.

We sang This is my Trunk and Percy the Pale Faced Polar Bear.  Here are the lyrics for these songs.

This is My Trunk

This is my trunk, I’m a tall, tall tree

In the springtime the blossoms grow on me

They open, They open.

This is my trunk, I’m a tall, tall tree

In the summer the breezes blow on me

I bend, I bend.

This is my trunk, I’m a tall, tall tree

In the autumn the apples grow on me

they drop, they drop.

This is my trunk, I’m a tall, tall tree

In the winter the snowflakes fall on me

I glisten, I glisten.

Percy the Pale-Faced Polar Bear

Way up in the land of ice and snow

Where the temperature drops to forty below

Who is the happiest one up there?

Percy the Pale-Faced Polar bear.

He sleeps at day and then at night

He’ll catch a few fish by the pale moon light

He never worries, he never cares!

Percy the Pale-Faced Polar bear.

Then one day a hunter caught poor Percy by the snout!

He put him in a great big cage.

Percy howled and he growled but he couldn’t get out.

Now he’s living in a zoo

and the funny thing is he likes it too

Because he met his best friend there

She likes Percy the Pale-Faced Polar bear

Who?

Percy the pale faced Polar Bear!

Thank you!  I look forward to seeing you next week!

Emily
