Dear Prep 1 Families,
Welcome to Prep 1! I am so happy to have your child in my class. I have a few requests for you to make our class fun and successful. First, please have your child use the bathroom before the beginning of class. Children are allowed to use the bathroom during class, but it can disrupt the flow of learning if many children have to go at once. Second, if at all possible, please give your child a chance to run around and play before coming to choir so they are more comfortable sitting during part of our class time. I keep the kids moving as much as I can, but sometimes we need to sit down and sing together. Finally, please let me know anything I should know about your child. Does s/he have any special needs or skills? I strive to create a classroom that serves all the kids in it. Parents are the experts on their own children, and your input is valuable in helping me create that.
Our first day of class was already filled with musical concepts— as well as name-learning opportunities.
We stared our class with My Little Boat, which allows me to say the name of each child, and to encourage the class to sing together.
We created body movements for each person’s name and did them all together.
We learned to show the beat in different ways with the rhyme 1 2 3 4, Mary at the Kitchen Door.
We also showed the beat in different ways while playing follow the leader with the song Let Us Chase the Squirrel.
We sang and played the folk song and game Just From The Kitchen.
We sang the song See Saw and learned about higher and lower pitches. We created body movements to show higher and lower.
We sang and played Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, which starts with the same 2 pitches as See Saw.
We learned the song Percy, the Pale Faced Polar Bear.
We finished our class with a prep 1 favorite: Hunt The Cows.
Thank you for joining Prep 1 and Cantabile, and I look forward to seeing everyone next week!
