Dear Prep 1 Parents,
Welcome back to our blog! We have a had a hiatus of a couple of weeks due to some transitions at Cantabile, and I am excited to share with you what your children have been doing!
One of the things I notice most about our Prep 1 class this semester is how bright and engaged they are. We get a lot learned in each class! In the past few weeks, we have been working on several skills:
- Beat and Rhythm: What is the difference?
- Identifying simple rhythms including Ta and Titi (quarter note and 2 eighth notes together.)
- Reading simple rhythms
- Hearing and identifying the solfege syllables Sol, Mi and La.
In addition, we have been working on a few songs that we will sing in our recital in December, Percy The Pale-Faced Polar Bear, On Top of Spaghetti and This is My Trunk.
This week, we also explored the possibilities of our voices by saying the rhyme 2, 4, 6, 8 in different animal voices. This helps the children learn to use all parts of their voices.
I have had the opportunity to hear each of your children sing individually during call and response songs and games, such as Lemonade and Hickety Tickety Bumble Bee.
I was very impressed by the children’s grasp of Ta and Titi so early on in the semester, when they were able to identify the rhythm of the chant Engine Engine number 9 very quickly. In addition, the children noticed that all the lines of the chant have the same rhythm.
Last week, the children derived the melody of the song Snail, Snail, which is made of of Sol, Mi and La.
I have had some questions about uniforms, and i really appreciate that you all are thinking about this now. Unfortunately, Merry Mart has many of our uniforms on back order. Keep trying and hopefully they will get them back in soon!
Overall, your children are making great progress, and I am really enjoying them! Thank you and I will see you next week.
