Dear Ensemble Singers and Parents,
I am excited to let you know that I have received the score from composer Howard Hersh for his Montalvo Arts Center Sound Installation commission titled Four Bridges. It is a wonderful piece, full of mystical, magical and somewhat nostalgic moments that the children’s choir delivers over a marvelous orchestral score. Please see links to the score itself and sound clips for practicing below. We will provide paper copies of the score at our next rehearsal, November 29th, but wanted you to have access to it in case you would like to begin to look at it and listen to it over the break this week.
Because our time is so short leading up to the recording session after returning from the holidays (with a second major project to prepare during the same time frame – the MLK, Jr. concert on January 21st), I am calling a special rehearsal during our regular rehearsal time slot on WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6TH, 5:00-7:00 PM at FCC in the Parish Hall.
This rehearsal will be devoted to reading through the score with the composer present to give some background and context to the piece. Singers will need to practice this music a bit over the break and this rehearsal will help them understand how to practice effectively. As a professional choir engaged to participate on this special project, this is a necessary step to be fully prepared for the recording session.
We will also take some time to reflect on the holiday concert, celebrating our successes and discussing things we want to improve on for our next performance while things are fresh in our memory from the concert. This time to debrief after the concert will be invaluable for Ensemble’s development and progress. I realize this is an addition to our schedule and I thank you in advance for doing what you can to make attendance at this rehearsal possible. We need every singer to be there.
