Greetings, Prep 3 Families!
Thank you for another great week of rehearsing! Continue studying your scores at home, and practicing each song from memory – and apply all the special dynamics we have discussed in class. Please also remember to complete pages 17-18 in your musicianship books this week!
Trivia Question: Who wrote and sang the famous South African Song (which accompanies our dance) Pata Pata? (you have to read the whole blog to find the answer!)
This week, it was fun to revisit Telephone Song, which is always such a great opportunity for children to work on their solo singing, intonation, expression and vocal confidence. It is also a nice way to greet everyone as we start our rehearsal! We also enjoyed revisiting the lively partner dance, Welcome, Bienvenidos. Then the children took turns composing songs on the F-doh tone ladder, before they derived the solfege for a familiar canon, Two New Blue Balloons. The children then learned a simple accompaniment for the canon, which they played on the glockenspiels as they sang the canon in 2-part harmony. The rest of our rehearsal involved alternating song review with some fun dancing – we created a dynamic map for Kokoleoko and sang the whole song, remembering the harmonies and motions, then reviewed the Spanish pronunciation and harmonic sections in Un Lorito de Verapaz. The kids then had a great time polishing the rather challenging South African line dance, Pata Pata, and also loved playing El Capitan, where our captains and our captain-spotters are getting smarter and smarter! We also reviewed Sarasponda and Seize the Day, and ended with a lively performance of the Irish Jig!
In the News:
Concert Season is Coming!
We are preparing for two wonderful performances – Prep 3 will be featured in Cantabile’s All-Choir Spring Concert on Saturday May 14th at 1pm (call time 11:30), with our dress rehearsal taking place on Thursday May 12th at First United Methodist Church, Palo Alto, 4:15-6:30 PM.
Prep 3 will also perform in recitals the following week:
Laney’s Prep 3: Monday May 16th 5:00-6:30 pm
Katie’s Prep 3: Tuesday May 17th 5:30-6:30pm
New Cantabile singers will need uniforms for our spring recitals and concert – please order as soon as possible at Merry Mart Uniforms, as they tend to sell out of the Prep skirts fairly quickly. Singers will need to be in full Cantabile uniform at the May Spring Concert and Prep 3 Recitals. Please note that Prep 3 singers need to be wearing the red polo shirts with the Cantabile logo, and uniform black pants for boys, and skirts for girls.
