ALL SINGERS – VERY IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ:

Offsite Rehearsal THIS WEEK!

  • BOTH Tuesday and Thursday classes will be meeting at Los Altos United Methodist Church (655 Magdalena Ave. in Los Altos) during their normal rehearsal times. Please see the map that was sent home this week (on paper) for where to meet.

Recitals are coming!

Prep 1 Tuesday, Jazmine

I want to start off by thanking everyone for your support in setting expectations this week: there was a noticeable difference in classroom behavior this week, and I am so deeply grateful for your partnership in this area: it was such a blessing!

I’m delighted to say that the singers are doing a wonderful job preparing for their recital and that I, myself, am getting quite excited to share with you all that they’ve been working in very soon!

This week we mainly focused on preparing for our recital, including singing through all of our repertoire.  (Lyrics listed below.)  We also created some very fun rhythms and ostinatos using animals names, unicorn and alicorn being our two repeated favorites!  We had fun reviewing “Apple Tree” on the glockenspiels and even were able to improvise our own melodies “Sol”, “Mi”, “La”, and “Do”.

I’m looking forward to one more week together before their recital, and please do keep practicing their lyrics at home this week!  Thank you!  🙂

Garden of People
Each of us is a flower, growing in life’s garden.  Each of us is a flower, we need the sun and rain. Sun, shine your warmth on me.  Moon, cool me with your night.  Wind, bring the gentle rain.  Earth, dig my roots down deep.
Each of us is a flower, growing in life’s garden.  Each of us is a flower, we need the sun and rain.

If All the Raindrops
If all the raindrops were lemon drops and gumdrops, oh what a rain that would be.
Standing outside with my mouth open wide – ah ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah,
If all the raindrops were lemon drops and gumdrops, oh what a rain that would be.
(second verse)
If all the sunbeams were bubblegum and ice cream, oh what a rain that would be.
Standing outside with my mouth open wide – ah ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah,
If all the sunbeams were bubblegum and ice cream, oh what a rain that would be.

Gonna Build A Mountain
Gonna build a mountain, out a little hill.  Gonna build a mountain, at least I hope I will.  Gonna build a mountain, gonna build it high.  Don’t know how I’ll do it, only know I’m gonna try.
Mountain, mountain, build a mountain (three times), build that mountain high!
Gonna build a daydream, out a little hope.  Gonna push that daydream, up the mountain slope.  Gonna build a daydream, gonna see it through.  Gonna build a mountain and a daydream, gonna see them both come true.

Sing A Rainbow
Red and yellow and pink and green, orange and purple and blue.  I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow too.
Listen with your ears, listen with your eyes, and sing everything you see.  I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, sing along with me!
Red and yellow and pink and green, orange and purple and blue.  I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow too.
Prep 1 Thursday, Emily

Dear Parents,

This week we began practicing for our recital, which will take place at our regular class time on Thursday, May 11, from 4:00-4:45.  Please plan to come and bring some food to share for our potluck.  Also, please make sure your child has a uniform, and that he or she wears it to the recital.  Uniforms are available at Merry Mart in San Jose, or via their website, http://www.merrymartuniforms.com/Cantabile_Youth_Singers/.   If your child does not yet have a uniform, please address that as soon as possible.

I am not going to give away our recital program by telling you everything we did this week ; ), but here is a brief summary of skills:

  • We continued to work on Beat and Rhythm this week—both through body motions and reading flash cards.
  • The children were able to arrange the written phrases of a song in the correct order, and read the song back to me.  This was a new activity and the children showed their knowledge!

Thank you and I’ll see you next week!

Prep 1 Tuesday, Jazmine It was lovely to have everyone back together this week! Before we get into the review of the lesson, I want to take a moment and underscore how important it is to support our singers in coming to class prepared each week.  Prep 1 doesn’t have any materials or anything to bring with them, but it […]

Prep 1 Tuesday, Jazmine We had another week full of music making and fun in Prep 1!   This week we continued working on our inner listening skills by singing “Little Peter Rabbit” – a song where we ‘take away’ a word each time we sing through the lyrics.  This supports the singers in having to internalize the song and […]

Prep 1 –  Tuesday, Jazmine It was another wonderful Tuesday full of music making at Cantabile!  We started this week by reviewing the song and dance for “Bow Wow Wow”.  Then, after some warm ups, the singers were able to decode the rhythm to “Bow Wow Wow” by identifying if each beat had one sound (a “ta”), two sounds (a […]

Prep 1 –  Tuesday, Jazmine It was another wonderful Tuesday full of music making at Cantabile!  We started this week by working on our “inner listening” skills with the song “Little Peter Rabbit”.  By removing words phrase by phrase, this is a great exercise for internalizing a piece and being able to ‘hear it’ inside without singing it ‘outside’.   […]

Prep 1 –  Tuesday, Jazmine It was another wonderful Tuesday full of music making at Cantabile!  We started off by singing our new welcome song, “Buenos Dias” and I was so impressed by how quickly the singers have picked it up!  Then we dove straight into scarf warm ups and “I love to sing and play”, and we discussed how […]

Prep 1 –  Tuesday, Jazmine We had another wonderful week in class together!  We started off by learning a new welcome song “Buenos Dias” and its accompanying partner dance.  Then we reinforced independent singing (on “sol” and “mi”) with “Hickety Tickety Bumble Bee”.  After some scarf sound warm ups, and “I love to sing and play” for our warm ups, […]
