Prep 1 Blog

Dear Prep 1 Families,

I was glad to see your children yesterday, and to have a bit of indoor fun on a very smoky day!  I hope your children continue to feel ok, and that your families are keeping safe.  We were also very excited to welcome our new class assistant, Rosie.  She sings in Avanti, and is bringing her wonderful voice and skill to share with us every week.

We (stealthily) did a little bit of a rehearsal for our upcoming recital, which takes place on Thursday, December 13 at our regular class time.  That means we have 2 more classes before the recital.  We will be singing the following songs as recital songs:

  • Chocolat Chaud
  • On Top of Spaghetti
  • Percy the pale faced polar bear.
  • This is my trunk

Please make sure your child knows the words to all these songs.  I will include them all at the end of the blog.

Your children are really enjoying finding rests in our songs!  They seem to just love rests.  This week we practiced creating ostinati for and finding rests in Pease Porridge Hot and Bow Wow Wow.

They sight-read the music for the game Little Sally Water from the board.  Kudos to Christina for figuring it out!

We played Doggie Doggie Where’s Your Bone.

Finally, we went though all our recital songs, including a new one Chocolat Chaud.  Have your children watch the linked video.  There are only 2 words in the song:  Chocolat Chaud!

The children are doing great, and i am so excited for the recital.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thanks!

Emily

This is My Trunk

This is my trunk, I’m a tall, tall tree

In the springtime the blossoms grow on me

They open, They open.

This is my trunk, I’m a tall, tall tree

In the summer the breezes blow on me

I bend, I bend.

This is my trunk, I’m a tall, tall tree

In the autumn the apples grow on me

they drop, they drop.

Percy the Pale-Faced Polar Bear

Way up in the land of ice and snow

Where the temperature drops to forty below

Who is the happiest one up there?

Percy the Pale-Faced Polar bear.

He sleeps at day and then at night

He’ll catch a few fish by the pale moon light

He never worries, he never cares!

Percy the Pale-Faced Polar bear.

Then one day a hunter caught poor Percy by the snout!

He put him in a great big cage.

Percy howled and he growled but he couldn’t get out.

Now he’s living in a zoo

and the funny thing is he likes it too

Because he met his best friend there

She likes Percy the Pale-Faced Polar bear

Who?

Percy the pale faced Polar Bear!

On Top of Spaghetti

On top of spaghetti all covered with cheese

I lost my poor meatball when somebody sneezed

It rolled off the table, it rolled on the floor

And then my poor meatball rolled out of the door

It rolled in the garden and under a bush

And then my poor meatball was nothing but mush.

The mush was as tasty as tasty could be,

And early next summer it grew to a tree.

The tree was all covered with beautiful moss

It grew great big meatballs and tomato sauce.

So if you eat spaghetti all covered with cheese,

Hold on to your meatball and don’t ever sneeze.
