Greetings, Prep 3 Families!
Thank you for another great week of rehearsing! Our groups are doing concentrated work, and Laney and I are both so impressed with the quality of singing, and the obvious practice which is taking place at home! The children are singing canons in beautiful 2 and 3-part harmony, and navigating their way through 2-part musical scores – both of these accomplishments deserve much praise. We encourage the children to keep up the great work as we approach our Spring concert! Please note the various songs below which you should start to memorize as we refine notes, dynamics, and other musical nuances!
We are continuing to work on a number of canons, which are excellent tools for learning to sing in 2 and 3-part harmony. Some of these are:
Have your child teach you ALL these canons and sing together in harmony – so much fun!
Movement and Games
We are continuing to learn new dances and games, all which highlight the different cultures from which our songs come this semester. Some of these are:
This week, we continued to brush up on our rhythms with rhythm dice, and we also had the opportunity to hear everyone sing beautiful solos with the fun African-American Call and Response song, The Telephone Song. We also sang some fun new warm-ups which the singers helped to lead, including Tuning Tree, Mama Made Me Mash My M and Ms and in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we all had fun with a St. Patrick’s Vocal Explorations activity!
This weekend, please sit down with your music, and listen to the following songs:
Please remember that Kokoleoko and Sarasponda are in 2-part harmony – listen for when the parts split and to what your vocal line is doing! Sing along, and clap the rhythm of your part.
