Lori Bammesberger

Dear Ensemble,

Thank you for making room in your schedules last week to have a rehearsal with Howard to work on Four Bridges.  It will go a long way towards helping us to be confident at the recording session in February.  The spring semester is going to start with a bang, and I am asking you, singers, to devote some time over the break to practicing.  It doesn’t have to be a lot of time – just enough so that you keep the music at the front of your brain so we don’t feel shocked when we come back together in January!

I am attaching rehearsal tracks for a few of the more complicated sections of Four Bridges.  Please use these to practice with at first.  Then as you become confident, go to the SoundCloud clips to practice at the correct tempos and with orchestral accompaniment.

Also, below is a list of the songs we will sing at the January 21 Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration concert.  Please take a few moments to review songs you already know or learn anything you don’t know over the break.

  • Peter, Go Ring-A Dem Bells
  • Amani
  • Come And Sing (NOTE:  for the last two measures, we will sing in a 4-part split)
  • Shed a Little Light (NOTE:  you don’t have music for this yet, but listen to this recording of James Taylor singing it and get familiar with it.  It’s a great song that encapsulates Dr. King’s mission and hope for a just world with equal opportunity for all).  You may also use the rehearsal tracks below and begin to learn by ear.
