Emily Bender

Dear Prep 2 Families,

I was glad to see your children yesterday, and to have a bit of indoor fun on a very smoky day!  I hope your children continue to feel ok, and that your families are keeping safe.  We were also very excited to welcome our new class assistant, Rosie.  She sings in Avanti, and is bringing her wonderful voice and skill to share with us every week.

We did a little bit of a rehearsal for our upcoming recital, which takes place on Thursday, December 13 at our regular class time.  That means we have 2 more classes before the recital.  We will be singing the following songs as recital songs:

Please make sure that your children are solid on the words and melodies of the songs.  I would like them to sing from memory.  I will include words to all the songs below, and links, when avaialble, are above.  Just click on the song name.

In addition to practicing our songs this week, we:

  • played Obwisana, a sticks game from Africa.
  • reviewed the rhythms that we know in Pease Porridge Hot and Chicken on the Fence Post.
  • derived the melody of the song I see the Moon.
  • played John Kanaka.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I’ll see you in 2 weeks!

Emily

A Piglets’ Christmas

On the day before Christmas the farmer did boast,

That his piglets were best for the holiday roast.

He had fed them with barley and fed them with corn

So they’d be nice and fat for the feast Christmas morn.

Oh he dashed them with burnet and basil and bay.

They were buttered and breaded to bake for a day.

As he heated the oven it came very clear,

That he never could eat them for they were too dear.

O the pigs sang a carol, the farmer sang too,

With the feasting forgotten amidst the to-do.

Today’s the Time for Singing

Today’s the time for singing

Good cheer to us all bringing

But if we don’t get started now

When shall we begin?

We’d like a life of melody

Filled with constant harmony

But if we don’t get started now

When shall we begin?

Today’s the time for singing

Good cheer to us all bringing

But if we don’t get started now

When shall we begin?

We’d like to live a life of ease,

Going when and where we please

But if we don’t get started now

When shall we begin?
