New Music Commissions
Commissioning new music gives our singers the unique opportunity to be the inspiration for living composers, to participate in the creative process of shaping new pieces, and to perform repertoire written especially for them. Music commissions leave a lasting legacy in the world of choral music for young voices.
The 2013-2014 season marked Cantabile's first commission titled "Breakthrough," a choral piece composed especially for Cantabile Youth Singers of Silicon Valley by renowned composer Stephen Hatfield on the occasion of the second annual Peninsula Children's Choral Festival.
Mr. Hatfield is a Canadian composer, conductor, clinician and lecturer specializing in choral music. His enthusiasm, sense of humor, and love for music is what keeps him at the forefront of new choral music. For more information about Stephen Hatfield click here.
The 2014-2015 season marks Cantabile's second new music commission. This piece, titled “Shine” by English composer Will Todd will premiere at Cantabile’s All Choir Concert on May 16, 2015. Tickets for this concert can be purchased on our tickets page here!
Will Todd will join us all the way from the U.K. He has been playing the piano since he was three and composing since he was seven years old. His output includes works for choir, stage works, and orchestral works, and his music has been featured on BBC Radio and Classic FM, and performed all over the UK, Europe, the USA and beyond.
