Cantabile Chorale Presents

American Treasures

June 6, 7, 8, 2008

In a celebration of our nation's rich musical heritage, Cantabile Chorale's season finale highlights true classics of the American choral repertoire, including Samuel Barber's Reincarnations, Aaron Copland's In the Beginning, and Randall Thompson's Alleluia. The "classical" part of the program also showcases the maverick spirit of Charles Ives and the genius of the young Californian, Eric Whitacre.

Our celebration of American culture goes far beyond these icons as we pay homage to the great arranger, Alice Parker, with two Early American settings, honor the world of film and television, and enjoy hits from the Great American Songbook, including familiar songs by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Leonard Bernstein. Completing the program will be a lush setting of Amazing Grace and a rousing spiritual arranged by Moses Hogan. All the works will be sung in English.

Join Cantabile Chorale and Artistic Director Sanford Dole for a wonderful evening of American Song!

See the detailed program below.

Note that the Friday and Saturday venues are the reverse of our earlier concerts this season, and that the Palo Alto concert is a matinee. The Palo Alto concert will also have a reception during the intermission.
