Welcome to our new student, Megan Going! It’s great to see so many new faces in Ensemble this spring.!

1. MANDATORY RETREAT REMINDER – Foothills Congregational Church
Saturday, February 3rd, 11:30 arrival. Rehearsal with Intermediate Choir from 11:30-12:00 (parents are welcome to listen!), and potluck from 12:00-1:00.

Ensemble and Vocalise dismissed at 4:00 pm. Potluck sign ups will be sent out next week. If you can help with set up or clean up, please email Karen! Thanks!

2 WEST BAY OPERA –
Some of our kids this year are singing in the West Bay Opera production of The Queen of Spades (Pikovaya Dama) by Tchaikovsky! For tickets or more information, visit their website: www.wbopera.org

Performances are the weekends of February 16th-18th, and 23rd-25th.
We need to provide chaperones for this event, so please email Karen if you are interested!

3. MONDAY VOICE CLASSES
Location: Learning Center, Foothills Congregational Church. (please note – this is NOT the Parish Hall where we rehearse, but in the adjacent building next to the choir rooms.)

Time: 5:30-7:00 pm
This is a great chance to have a lesson with our Maestro Elena! Here are the dates for our classes this spring, all Mondays:

• January 22nd (tomorrow!)
• Feb. 12th and 19th
• March 5th and 19th
• April 9th and 16th
• May 7th and 14th

If you wish to come, please let Elena know each week by Sunday evening via email. Thanks!

4. CONFLICT FORMS – please remember to bring these this week!

5. NEW STUDENTS
Please remember to turn in all forms this week, including uniform orders!

Please do not fax your Foothill forms to Foothill College, but send directly to our office - 953 Industrial Ave, Suite 118, Palo Alto, or give to Karen.

6. KAREN’s NEW HOURS
Karen is needing to do more administrative work this spring during Sonja’s maternity leave. She will be spending less time at the church during rehearsals, and more time helping in other areas. Thanks for such a smooth start to our spring semester, everyone!

1. A warm welcome to our new Ensemble students, Audrey Yung, Lauren King, and Julia Angelopoulos! We are very happy to have you! Karen will be at rehearsal on Wednesday to collect your registration and uniform orders, give you your music folder and answer any questions you might have. Again, welcome to Cantabile!

2. Missing music: We will be providing more music this Wednesday. If you are missing a piece, please check in with Karen during rehearsal this week.

3. NEW! VOICE CLASS with ELENA:
To help Ensemble and Vocalise singers with their vocal training, Elena will be teaching several voice classes this semester. The classes are free and will be held on Mondays at our regular rehearsal space from 6 to 7:30 PM. Depending on number of students signed up for each Monday, it will be either one long session or two shorter session. It is most beneficial if singers come at the beginning of each class but it is also OK to be late or leave early. The first voice class will be held next week on Jan. 22nd.Please sign up this Wed. at rehearsal.

Here is what is planned for each class:

• Vocal techniques: posture, breathing, resonance, range extension.
• Vocal exercises: Vaccai and Panofka
• Art Songs in Italian, English and Latin to work on languages and styles.

4. Rehearsal Sign in! Please remember to sign in at every rehearsal for the next few weeks until registration ends. Thanks!

5. Thanks to those who signed up to provide snacks this month! We are in need of someone on Jan. 24th, so let Karen know if you can help. Also, although we ask the kids to clean up every week after rehearsal, it is great to have a parent there to help as well. This is a quick 5 minute job, and involves directing the kids to wipe down the kitchen, put away chairs, and empty the trash. Since Elena is by herself at the end of Vocalise, it is wonderful to have an extra pair of hands! No one has signed up for January or February as of yet.

6. Retreat reminder: Saturday, Feb. 3rd. Vocalise/Ensemble arrive at 11:30, and are dismissed at 4 pm.
