Hello everyone! Summer is almost here! I will not be sending out a regular weekly scoop this summer (I know, you are VERY disappointed……..) J but the office will be sending out an informational packet in early July with a complete calendar and other news for the 2007-08 season. I wish you all a wonderful vacation. I will be on vacation from June 19-25th with no access to email, but will return on Tuesday the 26th.
1. STANFORD PERFORMANCE REMINDER: WE NEED HELP UNLOADING RISERS AT 12:15 PM - PLEASE LET KAREN KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP
When: Saturday, June 16thApproximate breakdown of performance itself:
Call time: 12:30 pm
Location: Stanford Shopping Center, Center Pavillion
Performance: 1-4 pm.
- 12:30 – Vocalise/Ensemble and Intermediate arrive at Stanford to warm up
- 1:00-1:30 – Intermediate sings a set while Voc/Ens watch
- 1:30-2:00 – Voc/Ens sings while Intermediate watches
- 2:00-3:00 – BREAK for food, shopping, etc.
- 3:00-3:30 – Intermediate performs while Voc/Ens watch
- 3:30-4:00 – Voc/Ens perform while Intermediate watches
Note: There may be some mass numbers with all 3 choirs.
Attire: Vocalise/Ensemble: Concert dress – what was worn at Le Petit Trianon
Intermediate: What you wore for your spring concert – (polo and black pants)
Directions:
From San Francisco, Marin, and other places north
Take Interstate 280 South. Exit Sand Hill Road East. Follow Sand Hill Road approximately 3.5 miles, the Shopping Center will be on your right.

Take Highway 101 South. Exit Embarcadero West (toward Stanford University) for approximately 3 miles. Turn right (North) onto El Camino Real. The Shopping Center will be on your left.
From San Jose, Santa Cruz, and other places south
Take Interstate 280 North. Exit Sand Hill Road East. Follow Sand Hill Road approximately 3.5 miles, the Shopping Center will be on your right.

2. CD orders
If you would like a recording of the June 2nd concert Danza, please email Karen. Please include the number of Cd’s you would like to order. Please mail your checks to our office at 953 Industrial Ave, Suite 118, Palo Alto, CA,. 94303. Cd’s will be ready at the first fall rehearsal.
3. DATES FOR NEXT SEASON!
There will be more detailed information in your packet that will be mailed to you this summer, but here are some preliminary dates for next year’s season. Please mark your calendars now!
SUMMER PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY -- Puccini's opera La Boheme (concert performance)
(please look at the dates and let Elena know if you are interested)
We need 25-30 singers to sing the part of the children's chorus in this concert production of the famous opera.
Several Cantabile singers performed with Opera San Jose last season in the fully staged production and this time we are asked to sing
in the concert version of the opera. There is about 15 min. of music to learn. The scores are available and the CDs are coming soon.
To participate in these project, you will need to be the following:
- pick up the music and CD from Cantabile office next week.
- Practice your part as much as you are able and listen the the CD often so that you are familiar with the music.
- Be available for two 1,5 hour rehearsals during the second week of August -- exact dates will be determined later and we will try to accommodate as much as possible.
- Come to one rehearsal with the conductor on Wed., Aug. 15th (Los Altos or San Jose.) Time -- 5 PM.
- Be available for one dress rehearsal and two performances of the opera (see below.)
La Boheme with the Fremont Symphony, Oakland Symphony Chorus, Maestro David Sloss, Conductor.
- Cantabile Rehearsal: Wed., 8/15th, location TBA (Los Altos or San Jose)
- Dress Rehearsal: Wed., 8/22nd, 7:30 pm.
- Performance: Friday, 8/24 at 8:00 pm, Sunday 8/26 at 2:00 pm
- All events: at Olohne College in Fremont
FALL WEEKEND RETREAT

Hosting a youth choir from Shaumburg, Saxony during the weekend of Oct. 27th
ENSEMBLE/VOCALISE SECOND PERFORMANCE
Carmina Burana with Symphony Silicon Valley and the Ballet San Jose
Once again, Cantabile is the children's choir of choice for a professional production that calls for a children's voice. We are very proud of this offer. It is an exciting opportunity for our singers as Carmina Burana will be performed in its original version -- with dancers, chorus and orchestra. The children (as the rest of the chorus) are dressed in costumes and have a very impressive part.
There are several performances and two rehearsals involved but vocally the piece is NOT taxing. We will make sure that the children are able to rest between the acts and to do home work if they need to.

(Note: There will be an extra rehearsal on Monday Nov. 26th at Foothills Congregational – time TBA. This rehearsal is necessary as the regular rehearsal the week
before is cancelled because of Thanksgiving.)

VOCALISE/ENSEMBLE perform with the famous Bolshoi Ballet!
Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker – single performance in the Bay Area (we sing in the first act.)
Location: Flint Center, Cupertino (holds an audience of over 2,000!)
