Hello everyone, and Happy Halloween! Many thanks to the Froud family and Tatiana Promessi for our rehearsal snacks this last week.

1. CONGRATS TO THE NEW PARENTS!
Sonja and Olin Palmer are the proud parents of a new baby girl! Lena Neila Winsome Palmer was born on Friday, October 27th at 8:07 am, weighing in at 8 lbs, 7 oz., and 19.5” long. Sonja, Olin, and baby Lena are all doing very well. Flowers have been sent to their room on behalf of all of us at Cantabile.

2. VELJO TORMIS WORKSHOP
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH
GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH
3149 WAVERLY ST
PALO ALTO, CA 94306

• Call: 10:30, warm up in Brown Hall
• Piedmont Choir clinic with Tormis, 11:00-11:45 (Cantabile observes)
• Cantabile Vocalise/Ensemble Choir clinic with Tormis, 12:00-12:45
• Lunch on our own (bag lunch) 12:45-2:00
• Combined concert 2:30-3:15
• Dismissal 3:15

Attire: As this is a casual workshop, we are asking our singers to wear their Cantabile T-shirts, nice plain blue jeans, and tennis shoes. (please make sure that your jeans don’t have rips in them, or designs. Think plain) This is similar to what the Piedmont Choirs will be performing in. Elena will elaborate more in rehearsal this week about performance attire.

FOR NEW FAMILIES:
T-shirts for new members are going to be ready this week. I will be distributing these at rehearsal this Wednesday. If you are going to be absent, you will need to make other arrangements to pick up your shirt before Saturday’s workshop. Thanks!

Directions to Grace Lutheran Church: From 101 north or south, exit at Embarcadero/Oregon Expressway. Stay on Oregon Expressway, heading west towards El Camino. Turn left onto Waverly. The church will be on the left side of the street. The parking lot is small, so you may need to find additional street parking.

3. ITEMS LEFT AT REHEARSAL
There have been several items left, including a plastic serving bowl, a blue/green fleece jacket, and some really nice mechanical pencils! These items and many others have been put in the lost and found box upstairs in the left hand side of our cabinet at the church. Please remind your singers to take their belongings with them – thanks!

4. UNIFORM UPDATE
If you are new and missed last week’s rehearsal with Ensemble, please make sure to pick up your black pants and top from me this week. The pants are long and need shortening – please allow adequate time for alterations.

5. A request from Barbara, our Board President:
Volunteer opportunities:

Do you have grant writing experience? We would love your help with a couple of upcoming proposals.

We are looking for a new rehearsal venue that’s centrally located and which will allow for more rehearsal space and room to grow. Let us know if you have ideas or can help with the search!

We need help putting together our fall fund campaign letters the first week of November at our Cantabile office. Times are flexible, so if you are available, please contact Karen@cantabile.org. Many thanks!

School outreach: We have offers to post audition flyers in the following schools: St. Simon, Presentation HS, Oak Grove District. Barbara Windham is assisting with an outreach project for the Menlo/Atherton schools: Encinal, Oak Knoll, and Hillview MS

If you are able to distribute flyers to any other schools, please let Karen know. Posters are available on the table at rehearsal.

We need one parent to cover business areas such as malls and libraries.

6. WEEKLY SCOOP NOW ON WEB
Thanks to Tatiana Promessi, we can now access our weekly announcements on a blog on our Cantabile website! Just go to the Youth Singers page, and click on the Weekly SCOOP button. This is a great way to access information previously posted without having to dig through your emails.

Thanks everyone, and have a good week,

Karen

Hello everyone,

Thanks to Karen Hohner, Jeanette Hung, Diep Maser, Desta and Steve Krong, Barbara Weinstein, Carolyn Luk, and everyone else who helped out at the potluck on Saturday! It was great hearing all the kids perform together and the food was absolutely delicious. Thanks as well to Angel Reyda and Cindy Howard for our Wednesday snacks.

1. Sonja Palmer, Cantabile Executive Director, is now officially on maternity leave. Here is some information to help all of us communicate with each other!

If you have questions for the office, you can email manager@cantabile.org. Our business manager Jennifer will be responding to any financial or tuition business.

Our new phone system in the office is up and running. When you dial our number, 650-424-1410, you will be prompted to leave a message for the office, or for one specific person. The extensions are: General Office, extension 71, Sonja: Extension 72 (but remember she is on leave), Karen: Extension 73, Elena: Extension 74, Shane: Extension 75, Keri: Extension 76

2. TORMIS WORKSHOP

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH
GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH
3149 WAVERLY ST
PALO ALTO, CA 94306

Veljo Tormis is an internationally renowned Estonian composer and conductor.

This is an amazing opportunity for our children to not only work with the Maestro, but also learn by watching him work with other choirs. We are honored to have been invited to participate in this very special event, and consider it to be a once in a lifetime opportunity. The informal concert in the afternoon is open to families and we hope that you will attend.

3. UNIFORMS Over the next few weeks, we will be receiving uniforms. I will be bringing in some pants and blouses to distribute to our new singers (and returning singers who ordered something) this Wednesday the 25th. If you are going to be absent on Wednesday, please let me know. Please try on your uniform right away, as some may need shortening. We may be wearing our concert dress for our workshop on November 4th.

4. ATTENDANCE REMINDERS A reminder that if you are going to be absent, please email both Karen@cantabile.org, AND Elena or Shane. Remember that missed rehearsal time is impossible to get back – so we really need you there!

If your singer missed more than 2 rehearsals by Nov. 8th, he/she will be asked to meet with Elena for part check on the December concert repertoire.

5. ENROLLMENT CAMPAIGN

Cantabile founder and past director, Signe Boyer and I will be working over the next few months on a recruiting campaign for Cantabile. We will be sending posters and information to many of our schools. We need to get the word out about Cantabile! We are especially interested in placing our audition flyers for the spring semester in school newsletters in areas such as Palo Alto, Los Altos, Mountain View, Menlo Park, and Atherton. If you are interested in helping with this project, please let us know!
