Michaela Landgraf3 years with Cantabile
Taking a gap year and applying to college
I still remember when I first walked into the Parish Hall at FCC. I was immediately struck by the kindness and warmth my soon to be best friends exuded. While I knew this was a prestigious choir that I was joining, I did not realize the impact the directors and community of Cantabile would have on my life. One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is this: any organization is only as strong as its weakest members, and, especially in choir, every voice is equally important. I began Cantabile as a sophomore who knew very little about choral music, and Elena encouraged, inspired, and challenged me to no longer just “ride the wave” of the seniors but instead, to be that wave. I discovered that through diligence and perseverance, I could achieve excellence. Every Monday, I practiced mindfulness and completely focused on the present moment, whether I was engaging in qigong or practicing body percussions for a new piece. Furthermore, Cantabile provided me with opportunities that some people only dream of like singing in Carnegie Hall and Notre Dame de Paris. These experiences and the friendships that came with them shaped my life and will continue to inspire me.
