A native of Silicon Valley, Amanda Ku grew up singing in choirs and has played piano for as long as she can remember. A passion for making music with others has since become a driving force in her life, and she is excited to take the next step in her musical career with Cantabile.
While completing her undergraduate degree in Environmental Systems at UC San Diego, Amanda began accompanying for musicals and singing showcases, including annual student-run mainstage musical productions and quarterly MFA Acting candidate cabarets. She contributed further to the campus community by joining The Beat, a co-ed student a cappella group, for two years as a music director, arranger, and vocal percussionist. Outside of school, Amanda had the opportunity to accompany voice students at the California State Summer School for the Arts in 2012.
In the realm of musical theatre, Amanda made her music directing debut in 2013 with Muir Musical's production of Sweeney Todd at UC San Diego, and returned as pianist-conductor for Gypsy. Upon graduation, Amanda music directed and accompanied local productions of the new musical comedy Disenchanted! and Jason Robert Brown's song cycle Songs For A New World. Since returning to the Bay Area in 2014, Amanda has been active on the local theater scene, bringing stories to life from the piano for a diverse range of musicals including Chicago, Mary Poppins, Into the Woods, The Addams Family, and In the Heights.
When she is not sight-reading the accompaniment for any score she can get her hands on, Amanda can be found reading, enjoying nature, working on her latest side project, and trying to learn jazz piano.
