Hailing from Harlingen, Texas, Justin Cavazos brings his energy and enthusiasm for music to Cantabile. Justin recently earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance from Stanford University. While at Stanford, Justin worked in leadership positions with several organizations. As the President of the Music Students’ Association, Justin coordinated social events and outreach for students who participated in the Music Department both through music classes and department ensembles ensembles. As Music Director and Arranger for Mixed Company, Stanford’s co-ed a cappella group, Justin led rehearsals in preparation for major concerts, participation in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA), and smaller commercial, private, and public service performances. He also worked with other Mixed Company leadership members to coordinate auditions, social events, and provided group representation.
Since making the trek to California, Justin has traveled and recorded while singing as a baritone with Stanford Chamber Chorale and Stanford Mixed Company, sang the titular role in an abridged version of Mozart's Don Giovanni, and started a rock band. Justin also studies and plays acoustic and electric guitar, and recently put his skills to work in musical theater pit bands for shows including The Last Five Years, Little Shop of Horrors, and Chess. He also worked as the Vocal Director for the At the Fountain Theatricals' original student musical, Mirror Image. He continues to sing with the St. Ann Chapel Choir.
When Justin can find a minute of spare time, he enjoys discovering new music, cooking, songwriting, and playing frustrating, but fun video games.
